Mud
Island River Park |
This island adjacent to the downtown waterfront is connected to the shore by a monorail and a pedestrian bridge. A highlight of the sizable park is the five-block-long scale model of the lower Mississippi River which includes maps of riverside cities and re-creations of the seasonal changes in water level. There's also an amphitheater and the Memphis Belle Pavilion, where the famous World-War-II airplane is on display. |

Overton Park |
This huge park is home to the Brooks Museum, Memphis College of Art and the Memphis Zoo, in addition to a lake, golf course and old-growth forest. Pick up a map at the golf house and walk the 1-mi/1.6-km Old Forest Trail. Also within the park is the Overton Park Shell, an interesting half-dome that is sometimes used for outdoor concerts. | |
Tom Lee Park |
This
downtown park offers a good view of the Mississippi River. Many of Memphis'
biggest festivals take place there, including the Beale Street Music Festival
and the Great Southern Food Festival. |
